Huia Apartment Refurbish

When Manson were engaged to refurbish the student accommodation next to the Auckland Hospital they once again subcontracted to McAlpine Hussman for the HVAC/Mechanical. This was a boon for LIMS Aeroseal because we had already worked together successfully on two Fanshawe Street buildings. LIMS Aeroseal were brought in get the ductwork as airtight as possible.

  • The Utility Shower Southern is the absolute lowest number we’ve ever been able to achieve – the equivalent of a 1.1 sq cm hole.
  • Then looking at Toilet North it was a 99% reduction in leakage which is as close to perfect as you can get.
  • The big spike midway through sealing Tearoom North was when the bag blew off, once we fixed that you can see the graph dropping nicely again.
  •  Finally there is the kitchenette which was challenging! The litres per second on that riser did get as low as 35L/s @ 300Pa and then climbed back up to just under fifty in the post seal. Our best guess is that this was caused by leaks redeveloping around the access panels as we attained better and better duct pressure (438Pa when the reading was 35L/s).

There were hoses coming off the back of the riser (two on level two and one on every level above). This immediately explained the numbers on display.
